Financial Commitments
for laurenbishopdurkin.com
I am an idealist who still believes a better world is possible. I believe this starts with the small & large choices we make in our own lives and businesses. For me, this means financial accessibility & economic justice & an ongoing commitment to the environment.
Here’s how that plays out in my business and work:
Reduced Price Scholarships and Sliding Scale Pricing
For all my online courses, I will offer partial scholarships to allow for folks who could benefit from the content but do not have the financial means to invest in it. My in-person retreats offer a shame-free sliding scale model so each participant can join from within their current means, and people with greater means can opt into a higher price tier to help supplement payments for folks on the lower end of the scale.

Annual Reparations & Redistribution
I believe that white settlers have a responsibility to share the financial gains that come from their privilege, and I believe each one of us owes the planet a debt of gratitude. I pledge to give a percentage of my income to local environmental groups and Indigenous organizations or individuals. As my business income increases, so will my contribution amount.

Urgency-free Marketing

I am committed to not using marketing tactics based on scarcity and urgency. I will do my best to offer long registration periods and avoid selling tactics based on fears and self-judgement.

Penalty-Free Payment Plans
I won’t be charging any extra fees or interest for choosing a payment plan to work with me or attend one of my retreats. I don’t believe you should have to pay more if you don’t have the money up front.

Revenue Sharing with Collaborators
When collaborating with folks on program creation and launch, I offer the option to share revenue with them.

Value My Own Worth
After a lifetime of people pleasing and hustling for my worth, I am no longer willing to exploit myself for a job, even my own business. I believe that it is the deeply entrenched systems of white supremacy, patriarchy, capitalism, and ableism that led us to believe our worth comes from our productivity and I am committed to unlearning these lies. I will take my own energetic capacity into account in all my business and financial decisions.
I am still learning how to run an ethical, financially accessible, sustainable business and I am bound to do it imperfectly. I thank Nicole Antoinette and Becca Piastrelli for the seeds of these policies.
